We Are Closed... But We'll Be Back

Temporarily Closed

Today, during his daily address to the public, Governor DeWine announced the order to close barbershops, beauty salons, and tattoo parlors. Because we will not be returning to check voicemails, we created this site so that you can stay informed not just about when we will reopen, but also about what you can do in the interim. Click "Subscribe" at the top to make sure that you get email updates.

The Decision

This must have been a tough decision on Governor DeWine's part (we were considering taking similar action if he had not made the announcement), we agree with this decision and will comply willingly. For us, there are several considerations that made this tough for us, and we wanted to share those with you.

Safety

The safety of our customers and techs is very important to us. While the Ohio Revised Code section 4713-15 has very clear and well thought out guidance for sanitation and infection control, this mainly applies to work area, instruments, and interpersonal contact between techs and clients. As you know, there are many surfaces in our business that do not fall under this category. While we clean the public ares of the shop daily, it would be impossible for us to service our cliens and keep the public areas sanitized on a continual basis.

Availability of Supplies

We are aware that the supplies that we use daily for infection control (masks, gloves, paper towels, bleach, and hospital grade disinfectant) are currently in short supply. In order to continue to do business under the increased demand would require us to divert inventory this is needed elsewhere. While a key contributor to the shortage is panic buying and people hoarding for profit, we feel it is important that we do our part to ensure that first-responders and front-line workers are able to perform their functions safely.

Income

It's important to note that our techs are each licensed by the state of Ohio as independent business owners. Their income is based on commission and tip (so be kind and tip well). Because of their status as 1099 contractors, they are not eligible for unemployment insurance. The moment we close the doors, their income stream stops. Closing, therefore, is a weighty decision for us, and we always consider the consequence that a closure has on our techs. We love them as much as you guys do, and want to make sure that we do right by them.

Customer Needs

Just because we're safe at home doesn't mean your nails will stop growing. We understand that all of you want or need to maintain your nails. Any closure will not just be an inconvenience, but may leave you uncomfortable, or even in pain. To that end, we encourage you to reach out to Susan for advice. She will do her best to help you get through your issue.

What's Next?

There's no easy answer to that question. We are doing our best to follow the guidance provided through trusted sources, and will only re-open when we can be certain that we can ensure the safety of our customers and techs. Does this mean that how we do business will change? It may, but we just don't know yet. As we get more guidance, we will share it here.

Thank you for doing business with us. We love you all, and can't wait to see you again, healthy, happy, and with stories to tell.
